2011 Hope Team – Meet Joe Stokes

The responsibility of leadership can be daunting. The integrity, compassion and honesty of today’s leaders are paramount for both achieving results and cultivating the leaders of tomorrow. When leaders recognize their own strengths they can begin to develop these skills and realize success.

Joe believes passionately that leadership is about playing to your strengths in an open, sincere and transparent manner. With over 30 years at Coca-Cola, Joe has a compelling record of developing talent through “one on one discovery” with employees. Joe connects quickly with people and easily inspires them to believe in their potential.

Much of Joe’s career was in a senior leadership role, where he managed various Sale Centres.  Upon retirement, Joe held the position of  Vice President of Sales Operations and Logistics. He has a strong background in collective bargaining, supply chain, talent development and market execution. Joe has coached and mentored numerous senior leaders that are presently inside and outside of the beverage industry. He was instrumental in creating sustainable development programs at Coca-Cola; (1) The Signature Series, a store assessment, measuring marketing progress; (2) Project Acceleration, which identifies and fast tracks high-potential managers and; (3) An extensive Orientation Program for new managers.

Joe was one of only two Canadians graduates of Coca-Cola University in Atlanta – an MBA style program for Senior Executives from Coca-Cola world-wide. His thesis was “Building Talent and Diversity Within Coca-Cola’s Call Centres”. Joe also studied English at University of Toronto and Business Management at Durham College. Joe has sat as a Director on the Pension Committee for Coca-Cola Bottling and is currently on the Foundation Board of WindReach Farm, a non profit agency helping persons with disabilities lead a more productive life.
